Regolo Ricci was born in Italy in 1955 and at an early age, moved to Canada. He is completely self-taught, having left the University of Toronto where he studied english literature and the classics. As well as painting, he has illustrated 11 books and was nominated for the Governor General’s Award for Children’s Book Illustration in 2000. Working mainly in oils and watercolors, he is best known for his portrayals of the landscape of southern Ontario. He began documenting the disappearing rural Ontario as far back as 1980 and still explores the villages and towns around the Metropolitan area. Along with landscape his other main interest is in still-life. He presently lives in Ontario, Canada.
